Traders Worried As Festive Business Yet To Pick Up

IT IS a sure sign that times are hard. No huge shopping crowd is seen at the popular bazaars at Masjid India and Chow Kit in Kuala Lumpur although the Hari Raya festive season is just around the corner.

These well-known shopping arenas are usually jam-packed with people before any festive season but this year, the Hari Raya shopping crowd appears smaller and the noisy trading seems more quiet and subdued.

Obviously, the current high cost of petrol and the increasingly rising cost of living in the city are a damper on spending.

According to Mohamad Ngah, 34, who has been selling Hari Raya cookies for more than a decade, business has been very slow. “Usually, on Fridays, you would see people coming to buy but now even during the weekends, you do not see many people,” he said. “In the previous years, our business took off early during Ramadan but this year it is very uncertain,” Mohamad said.

Clothes seller Ema Radna Puri, 23, also said sales had dropped significantly this year. We are already halfway through Ramadan and Raya is just days away, but the shopping crowd is not there,” she said.

teruk sgt ke sales..aku pun tak sempat la nak pegi jln tar tu..malas pun sebenarnya..kalau sume org cam aku abis la bankrap org meniaga hehe

Kalau ekonomi masing - masing pun sebab harga barang2 yang dah melambung naik! Itu pun berpunca dari kenaikan harga petrol!Whatever it is, 'ukur baju di badan sendiri'!Jangan membazir!
