Residents of Ampang who have had their property damaged by natural causes can claim compensation.
“Not many residents are aware that they are able to claim insurance from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council if their properties, such as houses, shops and cars, are affected by natural causes and poorly maintained infrastructure in their area,” said Teratai assemblyman, Jenice Lee.
This applies to those living under the jurisdiction of the council.
The insurance covers damages caused by natural causes such as heavy downpours, as well as grievances caused by lack of maintenance of council's facilities.
“If a resident gets hurt while crossing a drain that was not constructed properly, the resident could claim compensation from the council.”
Lee was speaking at a meeting to determine if hawker stall and house owners agreed on the compensation given by Atika Takaful Berhad, the insurance company appointed by the council.
She emphasised that she wants residents to be aware of their rights.
On May 21, the effects of a storm resulted in trees collapsing on hawker stalls at the Teratai Food Court in Taman Bukit Teratai.
Under the insurance coverage, the council had entertained 12 claims, six for home owners and another six for stalls, to the tune of RM 28,805 and RM 18,555 respectively for the damage caused by the storm.
“Residents who want to claim for damages should take a photograph of the affected premises, make a police report and submit the report and photos to the council,” Lee added. full article
